Celebrate Our Love Story
Our Journey Together
Hannah and James first crossed paths at a quaint coffee shop called Drunken Bean in Chicago. Their unique love story began with a series of playful messages, culminating in a beautiful connection that blossomed into a lifelong commitment.
Meet James
James grew up in Arlington, Texas, studied in Rochester, NY, and somehow made it through medical school in Lubbock, Texas and residency in Cincinnati OH without completely losing his sense of humor. He now works as a plastic surgeon in Chicago, which basically means he’s really good with tiny stitches and talking way too much about sunscreen.
James is outgoing, energetic, and has never met a stranger. He’s also kind, loyal, and has developed a love for wine that Hannah kindly tolerates.
Meet Hannah
Hannah grew up Seoul, Korea, studied in Chicago, survived New York law firm life (barely), and then wisely returned to Chicago. She now works as an in-house attorney, which is a fancier way of saying she’s really good at reading long documents and explaining them.
Hannah is thoughtful, creative, and adventurous. She’s also an introvert who somehow fell in love with James, a true extrovert - proof that opposites really do attract, or at least that introverts sometimes give in.
By James
Planning a surprise for someone as observant as Hannah is a bit like trying to hide a parade. Since she’s inherently 'keen,' I knew a standard Saturday wouldn't cut it. I leveraged a 'canceled' work event on our shared calendar as my cover and sent a morning text: Be ready for brunch.
We started at Ralph Lauren, tucked right by the fireplace (Hannah’s natural habitat). To keep the ruse alive, we spent the afternoon casually window-shopping down Michigan Avenue. My goal was an art gallery—a nod to Hannah’s own
incredible talent as an artist. I suggested a coffee detour and 'happened' to point out a museum she’d never visited.
We wandered through the quiet halls until we stumbled upon a display: a collage of Hannah’s own drawings. In that moment, the weeks of practiced speeches evaporated. For the first time in my life, I was speechless. I ditched the script, spoke from the heart, and through her very enthusiastic 'YES,' I finally got the ring on her finger. We capped the night with Krug 2006 and dinner at Oriole!
